BAND NEWS:

Hello, Everyone!

We are gearing up for another FABULOUS year of BAND!  All band members in grades 4 through 8 will need to download the Oak Grove Band Handbook for 2010/11.  It is available on the Band web page (http://www.ogschool.org/band).  Please print, fill out, sign and return the last page of the handbook to the directors.  Here are the details for the start of Band:

The following schedules will begin Wednesday, September 8th.

SYMPHONIC BAND (Grades 6, 7 and 8) • Symphonic Band rehearsals will take place Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings beginning at 7:30 a.m. Students are expected to arrive no later than 7:20 a.m. to warm up and prepare for rehearsal. JAZZ BAND • Jazz Band rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning at 7:30 a.m. Students are expected to arrive no later than 7:20 a.m. to warm up and prepare for rehearsal. Jazz Band is open to all Symphonic Band members, and any other students who play guitar, bass or piano.  Our first rehearsal is Thursday, September 9th. (There was a typo in the letter that was sent home.)

BEGINNING BAND • Beginning Band is open to all 4th Grade students and any 5th Grade students who have not played an instrument. Recruitment night is on Thursday, September 9th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room. This is the time for parents to learn about options for instrument rentals or purchases and to learn about band procedures and expectations.  One parent (no children, please) must attend this meeting. Full rehearsals will take place on Thursdays from 2:30 till 3:10.  We will begin lessons and full rehearsals the week of September 20th.

Band concert and event dates are listed below.  Please mark your calendars now.  It is imperative that you make plans now, at the beginning of the year, to fully participate in all of your group’s scheduled events.  It is extremely important for all players in the group to be present at the performances, so schedule the dates now to avoid conflicts later. Thanks in advance for your continued support and encouragement.  Your help is essential to the band program, and it is greatly appreciated.  We look forward to seeing you at our concerts.

Sincerely,

Dave Jones and Bill Overton
