Sectional Meet Info (will be posted when it becomes available)
Oak Grove track and field is open to all students in grades 6-8. No prior experience is necessary. Since track and field is a no cut sport, athletes are welcome to join at any time. The coaches are very flexible with schedule conflicts. Athletes practice four days a week (always one school day per week off). Practice lasts from 3:30-4:30, with extra coaching available until 5:00. The season begins the day we get back from spring break and ends in the middle of May. Some athletes participate longer if they qualify at sectionals for the state meet in East Peoria at the end of May.
*Only two athletes or one relay team can be entered per grade level/gender per event (Grades 7 and 8)
6th grade athletes can compete on the 7th or 8th grade team.
7th grade athletes can compete on the 7th or 8th grade team.
8th grade athletes can only compete on the 8th grade team.
**Athletes must qualify at Sectionals for the State Meet

One false start shall be permitted each contestant in each race.
Shot put should weigh a minimum of 8.81 lbs. (4.0 kilograms) with a diameter of 3 ¾” to 4 ¼” (9.50 to 11.00 centimeters). Discus should weigh a minimum of 2.20 lbs. (1 kilogram) with a diameter of 7.0866 to 7.16534 (180‐182 millimeters). Note: IESA boys and girls throw the same shot and discus at competition.
100m low hurdles for girls are 30” (.762 meters) in height with 42 ft. 8 in. (13 meters) to the first hurdle and 27 ft. 10 ¾ inches (8.5 meters) between each hurdle. There are 10 hurdles in this race. 110m low hurdles for the boys are 30” (.762 meters) in height with 45 ft. (13.72 meters) to the first hurdle and 30 ft. (9.144 meters) between each hurdle. There are 10 hurdles in this race.
