Response to intervention (RTI)

At Oak Grove School we are fortunate to provide math intervention for students through our Response to Intervention (RtI) program. The goal of the RtI program is to systematically provide every student with the additional time and support needed to learn at high levels. The RtI model consists of three tiers. In Tier 1, students receive high quality instruction with appropriate differentiation based on the grade level Common Core State Standards for math.  This instruction is delivered in the regular classroom by the grade level teacher. The achievement of all students is monitored  three times per year with a universal screener.  Based on the screening results, students may be eligible for math intervention services at two different levels of support.

Tier 2 RtI Services:  In Kindergarten through 5th grade, students receive targeted intervention support three times per week by a math intervention specialist.  This Tier 2 service is provided in addition to the regular classroom math instruction.  In 6th through 8th grade, students receive targeted intervention support two times per week by a math teacher.  This Tier 2 service is provided in addition to the regular classroom math instruction.

Tier 3 RtI Services:  In Kindergarten through 5th grade, students receive more intensive intervention support five times per week by a math intervention specialist.  This Tier 3 service is provided in addition to the regular classroom math instruction.  In 6th through 8th grade, students receive targeted intervention support three times per week by a math teacher.  This Tier 3 service is provided in addition to the regular classroom math instruction.

Students in both tiers are monitored very closely to ensure that they are showing progress as a result of the intervention.  Based on their response to the provided intervention, their services may be increased or decreased to accommodate their needs.  Ultimately, our goal is for students to succeed in the classroom given the high-quality instruction provided by the grade level teacher.
