2024 Illinois Youth Survey
The Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) is a survey of 8th, 10th and 12th graders, funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services. It gathers information about a variety of health and social indicators including drug use and perceptions, violence, bullying, depression, perceptions of school climate, nutrition and fitness. The IYS results in a statewide report that is used by local and state policymakers.  For more information: Visit the IYS website to see the 2024 IYS survey questions, sample school report, and to learn more about IYS.  Oak Grove students will be completing the Illinois Youth Survey on January 25th.  If you do not want your child to participate in this survey, please email Assistant Principal Joe O’Malley, omalley@ogschool.org, to officially opt-out of the survey.

Literacy Pilot Update
Beginning in January, teachers will be piloting a second literacy program. This is part of the planned 5-year curriculum review cycle in order to adopt an updated, research-aligned literacy curriculum beginning next school year. Select teachers and classrooms in grades 1-3, and grades 4 and 5 will utilize Great Minds Wit & Wisdom. Grades 6-8 will utilize Savvas MyPerspectives. Teachers received training and time to plan in order to execute the delivery of the program. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher. At the end of the pilot process, teachers will complete a rubric to compare resources and make a recommendation. The recommended resource will be available for stakeholders to review in the spring.

iReady Benchmark Reports
Reports will be sent home to families via email on January 10.

Morning Recess Volunteers Needed
This Thursday morning there is a staff breakfast and the PTO will provide volunteers to help with morning recess duty so that all staff have an opportunity to attend the breakfast. There are 7 spots on the elementary playground and 7 on JH. We need volunteers to report to OGS at 7:30am and you'll be able to leave once all students are in the building after the bell rings at 8:12am. Sign up HERE.

Cub Scouts Ice Skating Party - Open to ALL K-4!
Cub Scout Oak Grove Pack 194 has rented the ice at Top Shelf Ice Arena in Gurnee Mills on December 27 from 1 PM-2 PM. They would like to invite all Oak Grove Students K – 4 to participate. This event is completely FREE and is a great opportunity to have fun, and maybe try something new over the winter break, all while hanging out with other OGS community members. Show up as early as 12:45 for free skate rental so you can spend the whole hour on the ice.

Come join us for a Night in Paris on February 3, 2024!  Event and Raffle Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE.  See the Girl & Guest flyer in the Virtual Backpack.

If you have 1-2 hours to spare, we would love some volunteers to help out.  Volunteers are needed for raffle ticket prep, set-up (the night before), check in/food/raffle tables, and decoration tear down after the dance. Sign up HERE!

If you have any unopened toys or gifts to include in this year’s event raffle, we’ll gladly accept your donations! Examples could be dolls, crafts, legos, slime, puzzles, gift cards etc.! Please reach out to Heather Bildsten to coordinate a pickup.

PTO 5-8 Pizza Lunch on Friday
To kick off the winter break, the PTO is sponsoring a pizza lunch for all 5-8 grade students this Friday, December 22nd. Details on the lunch menu are being sent in an email. If your student would rather not have the pizza lunch, please make sure they bring a lunch from home.
