At Oak Grove School, we are fortunate to be able to provide services for students in a variety of areas. Special education is one part of the total educational program offered to meet the needs of our students at Oak Grove School. A full continuum of programs and services is available to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities from early childhood through 8th grade graduation. Services are provided at Oak Grove, however if a student's needs are more specialized or require more intensive intervention, educational programs and services are available throughout the Special Education of Lake County (SEDOL) cooperative.
Referral for Services
A student who is experiencing difficulties in school may be referred to the school child study team by a teacher, parent, principal or other concerned person. The team, comprised of special education staff members and the principal, review referral information and data and collaborate with the classroom teacher to design and plan intervention strategies to facilitate student success within the general education classroom. The child study teams also determine the need for case study evaluation.
If the team determines an evaluation is recommended, the evalaution process will be discussed with parents. The evaluation can not be conducted without written parental consent. Upon completion of the case study evaluation, parents are invited to a meeting at which evaluation results are reviewed and eligibility for services is determined. If a student is eligible for special education services, an Individual Education Program (IEP) is developed.
Eligibility for Services
A student may be found eligible for special education services under one of the following categories:
Autism Cognitive Disability Deaf-Blindness Deafness Emotional Disability Hearing Impairments Multiple Disabilities Orthopedic Impairment Other Health Impairment Specific Learning Disability Speech or Language Impairment Traumatic Brain Injury Visual Impairment.
